NGO Overview, Mission, and Purpose: What We Are About and Who We Help

Puppies Behind Bars (PBB) uses trained prison inmates to raise services dogs for wounded war veterans and explosive detection canines for law enforcement. At eight weeks of age, the puppies are given to an inmate for the next 24 months to live and be raised into a service dog.

Our mission is to provide inmates with an outlet to “learn what it means to contribute to society rather than take from it.” These service dogs bring hope, pride, and love to their raisers, and then contribute their security and independence to those they serve.

NGO "Bottom Line": How Me Make an Impact

PBB seeks to train the highly capable dogs for service for war veterans and law enforcement. By training these dogs, we not only make an impact in their future homes (whether it be in home, or in the field) but we also make an impact on the inmates that serve as their raisers for the first two years of their life.

Why You Should Join Us...

You should join our organization because we strive to enlighten inmates while giving the community usable resources (the dogs). Along with the benefits that inmates gain, such as friendship, love, and a sense of accomplishment; you also gain a new experience. Puppies Behind Bars is an organization that reaches out to those who can't reach out to others, and by joining us you help to improve the lives of others, one dog at a time.
